Benefits of SOAR Collaboration with SSA and DDS

A key component of the SOAR model is developing strong collaborations with the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Disability Determination Services (DDS). The SOAR TA Center has created a guide to help!

Purpose of the Guide:

In many states and communities, SOAR Leaders have collaborated with SSA and DDS to establish a SOAR Process for the submission and processing of SOAR-assisted SSI/SSDI applications. This may include additional steps or special handling procedures that would be implemented by SSA/DDS during the application processing. 

This guide outlines the various ways your SOAR program can develop successful working relationships with SSA/DDS and implement some common elements of a SOAR Process. Examples are provided from states and communities across the country to illustrate how successful collaborations can benefit SOAR-trained case workers, SSA, and DDS.
