On November 30 and December 1, 2022, President Joe Biden and Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland held the Administration’s second White House Tribal Nations Summit at the Department of the Interior.

The 2-day summit included speakers and panels highlighting many of the issues affecting Indian Country. The White House, cabinet secretaries, and federal agency officials announced several new policies and initiatives to strengthen the nation-to-nation relationship between the federal government and Indian tribes.

Within the White House Tribal Nations Summit Progress Report was the announcement of the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) establishment of the Office of Native American Partnerships, as part of the Biden Administration’s commitment to strengthening the nation-to-nation relationship. The office seeks to enhance SSA’s relationships with tribes by elevating and centralizing American Indian and Alaska Native programs and policies and will serve as the primary point of contact on tribal affairs. Read more about SSA's announcement of the Office of Native American Partnerships and SOAR Resources for Native American Communities.
